I enquired about importing a vehicle from the UK and got a phone call from Lincoln to discuss the process further. I made the decision to entrust Lincoln and Sally Roberts of European Car Imports to source and import a Nissan Leaf Tekna EV from the UK.   I had read about them on the NZ EV Owners Facebook page, and then viewed the many testimonials on their website. I was a little hesitant at first as the car of my choice was in the lower price range from what they usually dealt with.  I need not have worried. I received a lovely welcoming and informative email from Sally within 1 hour of making my first email contact with them, and she gave details of what their fee was and an idea of shipping and import costs. I knew I had backed a winner from their very first communication! I was presented with a selection of possible cars and we found a suitable 2016 Nissan Leaf Tekna 30kW, VAT qualifying, and in my chosen colour which was a little harder.  With just 411 miles on the clock, they even managed to get something off the price.  They secured the car for me, I paid the UK vendors direct and from then on, I sat back while the shipping process was organised.  Very quickly the car was on its way, with a link given so I could track the progress of the container ship. Any questions I had were answered extremely promptly and with such professionalism that is hard to find these days.  They also provided quite a bit of very helpful advice in relation to an electric vehicle. It was great having the projected costs right from the outset and, as luck would have it, Brexit worked in my favour with the exchange rate, so the final delivered to my door cost ended up quite a bit less than projected. I splashed out on personalised plates – all organised by Sally and Lincoln.  So very easy. All my communications with them were by email (which I find the best) until the day of delivery of the car to my home, when I got to meet Sally and Lincoln in person and thank them for their exceptional service. We had the luxury of a little time and specified a few different vehicle options in an attempt to get the maximum saving compared to purchasing on the domestic market – we looked at Q7’s and X5’s but ultimately settled on a 7 seat E-class wagon. Once we had found the car that matched my spec and budget….Lincoln arranged a 230 point check on the vehicle by someone who literally wrote a book on 997s. ECI provided all required information to assess the vehicle and the costs of shipping, as well as engaged on my behalf with Bamford Rose, the Aston Martin specialist independent who would work their magic on the car before shipping from the UK.  

I can’t praise your UK agent, highly enough, as he delivered sterling service in every respect.   Your UK Agent went out of his way to personally picked up the vehicle during the New Year break and drove it down to Bamford Rose to meet the team, and ensure safe transfer into their hands.  

As funds started to move, ECI provided me with clear and precise documentation and promptly documented safe receipt of funds in UK.  ECI provided all currency options, and clear forex buying advice (which I found was at market best rate), and provided trace documentation at every stage. 

I threw ECI a curve by deciding to fly up to the UK in early February to visit Bamford Rose after their three-week work cycle on the car.  No problems at all for ECI.  I needed insurance cover to use the car in the UK for 2-3 days to sort any last minute issues before shipping, and Lincoln worked hard on my behalf to secure appropriate cover.

Once I was satisfied with the car in every respect, your agent then personally picked up the car from Bamford Rose and delivered the car to the docks for shipping.  

Of course,  the pandemic then took hold, and Lincoln updated me constantly on the shifting shipping and arrival dates, and implications arising, and we discussed options around clearing customs and certification once on New Zealand soil.  ECI’s explanations and advice was professional, accurate, clear and concise, offering options and alternatives for my consideration.  The safest solution was to deliver into storage at my home until the certification centre reopens.    

Yesterday your low loader delivered the car to my home.  Everything was in it, the car was perfect, and it is just as I hoped.

I had been looking to import a car from the UK for some time as I had previously imported a Reliant Scimitar in 1971, but soon found that very few of the cars I was looking at were Vat qualifying.

By chance Lincoln and Sally’s web site popped up, one call to Lincoln, a couple of e-mails and the rest is history.  The first car we looked at ticked the four main boxes,  (1)  not White    (2)   not Black   (3)  no privacy glass  (4)  no White upholstery. Also had the added bonus of only 7500 miles.

Lincoln and Sally did all the negotiating including “repricing” and the deal was done. Two months later we flew to Auckland and Sally met us at the airport in a shiny near new R Rover, ready to go, reg, RUC, and full of fuel. Great to meet them and see what a switched on, family business can do.

When I was looking to purchase my first EV, Sally was recommended to me by a friend. I was after a recent model higher spec. than offered by a Jap Import (And wanted to save at least 10% on the price). Being post Brexit, the exchange rate is really good. Paying a fixed import price with them to find the car and do all of the work from door to door was great. I paid the supplier direct via my bank here, so everything was completely transparent. My tip, European Car Imports will find pretty much the exact car you desire, but don’t dally. Use the NZ / UK time difference to your advantage and get in before another UK buyer finds your car too. 12 Hours indecision on my part delayed my purchase a few weeks ’till we could find another car, although one just as good if not better came along. Recently my son and I have dealt with European Cars Imports. I have been dreaming of a jaguar car as my retirement and 65 year gift to myself. I only wanted a new or near new car, I looked at the local dealer, but with a price tag of $135k, it made me rethink my dream. I then looked of a local European car dealer in North Shore they had reasonably priced imports with low mileage and generally low specification. Thanks to Lincoln & Sally, I’m now in my dream car. All their previous reviews are right on the mark, so I won’t repeat them here. What I will say though is that I’m typically quite cynical. Hence purchasing a car and sending a lot of money overseas is a big step for me. However, meeting Lincoln gave me assurance that he is trustworthy and that he will get it done right.
